Immunity Boosting Hot Nog
THM FP/Sugar free/Dairy free
Feeling under the weather or wanting to support your immune system? This thick velvety drink has got you covered!
Every single ingredient included has amazing health benefits on its own, and combined they pack a powerful punch!
Baobab is a nutritional powerhouse, the highest antioxidant rich food on the planet, rich in Vitamin C, iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium and a great source of fiber.
Whey contains the essential amino acid glutamine, an important part of immune system and intestinal health.
We all know how great lemons are, and I could go on and on about tumeric, cinnamon and ginger! These simple, ordinary spices can reduce inflammation, support gut health, fight cancer and arthritis, are antiviral, and the list continues! Plus, the spicy warmth they bring is great for congestion if you are fighting a cold bug, and the tumeric gives a beautiful golden color. (In fact, in herbalism and ancient medicine, yellow foods like tumeric, lemons and dandelion are known to be incredibly good for your liver.....)
I've included a bit of glucomannan powder in this recipe to thicken the drink and make it more "nog like". (Is that even a word?🤔) Anyway, it adds great mouthfeel and makes it seem more as if you're drinking a rich S drink than a FP, but if you don't have any, feel free to omit it.
One other optional ingredient is the Thieves or On Guard essential oil. This blend of cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lemon and rosemary oils is extremely popular in cold and flu season, and I love the taste it gives, but again, if you don't have it, aren't into essential oils, or don't think you'd like the flavor, no problem!!
And I should point out that this drink is also very delicious so drink up any time!!
Ok, now that we've covered all that, here's the recipe!
Ingredients:
6 oz (3/4 c.) water
6 oz (3/4 c.) almond or cashew milk
Juice of one small lemon or half a large lemon
2-3 doonks THM Pure Stevia
1/4 tsp each tumeric, cinnamon and ginger
2 pinches sea salt
2 tsp baobab
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp glucomannan
1 tsp collagen
1 tsp MCT oil
1 drop Thieves or On Guard essential oil, optional
1 tsp whey
Instructions:
1. Heat water and nut milk to boiling.
2. Combine in a blender with all other ingredients except whey. Blend well, being careful with the hot liquids.
3. Add the whey while the blender is running on the lowest setting, then increase the speed and blend for a few more seconds to froth up the drink.
4. Pour into a cute mug and enjoy! Cozy blanket and book optional.
